Cal/Mag 1:2 formula offers a unique double amount of magnesium to address clinical deficiencies of this important mineral. Current research indicates that magnesium is essential for the body’s proper absorption and use of calcium, since it keeps calcium dissolved in the blood. Calcium in the citrate/malate form is one of the most bioavailable forms of calcium. Proper levels of calcium and magnesium are important to maintain healthy bones as well as a healthy heart. In addition, this formula includes essential minerals, zinc, potassium and boron.*

Cal/Mag 1:2 is a bone and cardio health formula offering a unique double amount of magnesium to address deficiencies of this important mineral. It also contains highly bioavailable forms of the essential minerals calcium, zinc, potassium and boron.
Uses: Cal/Mag 1:2 supports bone health, cardiovascular health, nerve and muscle function. Since suboptimal dietary intake of magnesium is extremely common, this formula contains twice the amount of magnesium as calcium.
Calcium is required for the critical metabolic functions of vascular contraction and vasodilation, muscle function, nerve transmission, intracellular signaling and hormonal secretion. Calcium is also necessary for maintenance of bone strength as measured by bone mineral density (BMD). When calcium intake is inadequate, the body uses bone as a reservoir to maintain serum calcium levels. Osteoporosis occurs when the creation of new bone doesn't keep up with the removal of old bone, resulting in deceased BMD (1).
Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. It maintains regular heartbeat, and has been found to reduce cardiovascular disease risk (2). Magnesium is essential for the absorption of calcium, acts on crystal formation in bone cells, and impacts the activity of parathyroid hormone- a regulator of calcium homeostasis (3). 60% of the body’s magnesium id stored in bone. Magnesium deficiency results in lower BMD as magnesium is pulled out of bone for other biological functions.
Zinc has been demonstrated to have a stimulatory effect on bone formation and mineralization and to inhibit bone resorption (4). Zinc appears to have protective effects for cardiac health. Zinc deficiency has been linked to many forms of heart disease, and replenishing zinc has been shown to improve cardiac function (5).
Potassium is an electrolyte that plays a key role in maintaining regular heartbeat and normal blood pressure. Potassium citrate supplementation was found to improve calcium balance in older men and women, perhaps by neutralizing dietary acids (6).
Boron plays a role in the formation of steroid hormones such as estradiol, supporting bone health by prevention of demineralization (7). Boron also increases the effectiveness of vitamin D in the body.
